Orthoni is the largest of the complex Diapontia islands north-west of Corfu and the most western part of the Greek territory and the Ionian sea with dramatic changes in its landscape. It is characterized by impressive rocks.
The islands are rich in vegetation and have beautiful beaches and sea caves Hills with pines, cypress and olive trees, sudden cliffs and sea caves are found on the island. Legend says that one of the caves is the cove of Calypso, the beautiful bride which kept Odysseus jailed seven years until she finally helped him escape and return to Ithaca.
Orthoni is the most western border of Greece, just seven miles from Sidari and with 200 inhabitants divided into two villages, Ammos and Chorio.
In the area of Xilosermi, the sudden cliffs are called "to koukouli tou Frantzezou" which makes for an impressive sight. The lighthouse of the island is thought as one of the best in Greece with a visibility of 25 miles.
Orthoni can be reached by ferryboats from the port of Corfu town with two or three departures a week, or with smaller boats from Sidari and Ayios Stefanos.
